Sandro Zeller left no stone unturned at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic. The first race began after the start with a crash in the chicane caused by two competitors from the midfield.
After a safety car phase and the subsequent re-start, pole setter from Oetwil am See made up a few meters in his self-prepared Dallara F305-VW from Jo Zeller Racing and controlled the field from the lead until the finish.
His main rivals Alessandro Bracalente and Andrea Cola came away empty-handed in the fight for the podium places in the first race. Both were moved down ten places on the grid after qualifying due to irregularities in the air restrictor of their Formula 3 race cars. Cola managed to work his way up to P6 and Bracalente to P8 in the 21-car field.
As a result, Germany's Philipp Regensperger (Dallara F305-Opel) finished second, 8.575 seconds behind, and Bern's Kurt Böhlen (Dallara F309-VW) was third, almost 16 seconds behind Zeller.
As the best-placed Italian, Antoine Bottiroli (Dallara F312-Mercedes) narrowly won the battle with Antonino Pellegrino (Dallara F308-VW) from the Jura region.
Two Swiss victims of a collision
In the second 25-minute plus 1-lap session, the chicane again became a crash trap. At first everything went smoothly and pole setter Bracalente was the first to turn in. In the middle of the field there was a huge crash. Marcel Tobler, Kurt Böhlen and Andrea Cola were hit by competitors.
Cola found himself off the track, Tobler had damaged the front right side on his Dallara and Böhlen had to have the tie rod repaired during the unscheduled pit stop. Race control interrupted the race to clean up the track.
Bracalente took the lead after the re-start, but Sandro Zeller did not let up behind the Italian and passed in the final third of the race. Zeller thus celebrated a double victory on the race weekend, as he had done previously at the events in Hockenheim and Spielberg.
Bracalente and Regensperger occupied the podium places alongside the Swiss. As fourth in the second race and second in the Horag Swiss Formula 3 Cup dominated by Zeller, Antonino Pellegrino was better placed than ever before.
