Formula 2: Final without Swiss highlight 🎥
DELETRAZ STILL WITHOUT F2 WIN After a great podium the previous week, Louis Delétraz came away empty-handed at the Formula 2 finale in Bahrain, as did Ralph Boschung. On the Outer Circuit of Bahrain, which he was driving for the first time, Louis Delétraz never got up to the necessary speed to have a say in the allocation of the front positions, as he had often done in the past season.
Starting tenth, a twelfth-place finish in Saturday's main race also gave him the starting spot for Sunday's sprint, which the 23-year-old Geneva native finished in 13th position. A week earlier, he had finished further back on the podium on the GP circuit.
Weakness in qualifying
Instead of improving in the championship standings, as was the minimum goal, Delétraz slipped from seventh to eighth place. In the 24 races over twelve Grands Prix, the veteran collected 134 points. Louis was on the podium five times in 2020, but never at the top in his fourth and probably final Formula 2 season.
What this was due to, he tries to explain.
Louis Delétraz: "The last weekend was difficult and disappointing, but over the year we were otherwise quite consistent and really fast on several occasions. I was aware of my weakness in qualifying, and it stayed that way for most of the year. Having to start in the midfield so often is never ideal. Nevertheless, I scored well a few times and was the only driver to complete all possible race laps. That alone is an achievement in a competitive class like Formula 2."

Highlight in Mugello
In theory, Delétraz remained in contention for the title until the penultimate weekend. In practice, however, he was at least one victory short of the goal he had set himself for the season.
What were his best moments in the exceptional year 2020?
Louis Delétraz: "I would say Mugello, where I finished on the podium twice on the same weekend in September. A week ago, the Sunday race in Bahrain was also one of my best. In between, there were races where I didn't have the pace but got further ahead than expected thanks to teamwork."
Formula 2 crown 2020 to a native of Switzerland
Mick Schumacher, who had arrived as championship leader, was the fourth champion of the modern Formula 2 era. After a modest sixth place on Saturday behind his direct title rival Calum Ilott, he still had to tremble on Sunday.
The reason is shown by the following highlights.
As a result of a major braking incident, Mick Schumacher had to pit after a few laps. Calum Ilott would have been champion with a win, but also came away empty-handed.
The 21-year-old German, who grew up on Lake Geneva in Vaud, had already been confirmed as the new GP driver at HaasF1. Where the future will take Louis Delétraz is an open question. As in the current year, endurance races with sports prototypes and GT vehicles are conceivable.
However, he is still taking part in the three official Formula 2 test days in Bahrain this week, where he will climb into MP Motorsport's Dallara F2. Perhaps this chapter is not quite closed after all.
A mixed comeback from Boschung
With Ralph Boschung, Switzerland will continue to have a driver in the second highest FIA formula, as reported. The Valais native took over the place of Jack Aitken at Campos Racing at short notice already in Sakhir.
After an encouraging 13th place in free practice, Boschung had to settle for 20th place among 22 drivers in qualifying, which was marred by yellow and red phases. With good driving and strategy, he moved up to 13th place in the main race.
However, he had to retire from Sunday's sprint after being hit by a competitor with a damaged race car in the pits.
