Formula 1: Sauber eagerly awaits start of season in Australia
After 1890 test kilometers in Barcelona and positive findings about the C35 Ferrari, the Sauber F1 Team is now looking forward to the first race of the 2016 Formula 1 season in Australia. The 5.303-kilometer track at Albert Park is not a permanent race track. That's why the vehicle set-up of the C35 is primarily focused on braking stability and accelerating out of rather slow corners.
Marcus Ericsson has good memories of Albert Park: In the 2015 season, he finished eighth and thus collected the first points of his Formula 1 career. After the positive preparation, the Swede can now hardly wait to get back in the car. "I feel comfortable in the C35. Now we have to wait and see how things develop on a race weekend," he said.
Team-mate Felipe Nasr also looks back fondly on the start of the 2015 season. "Finishing fifth in my first Formula 1 race is something I'll probably never forget. It's nice to return to Albert Park with these great memories. I feel well prepared for my second Formula One season. I'm also curious to see where we'll stand with the C35 compared to the other teams," he said.
For the Australian Grand Prix, Pirelli will introduce the new tire regulations for the first time. Previously, Pirelli specified two tire compounds for the weekend, but this year there are three. At least two different compounds must still be run in the race. In addition, the new "Ultrasoft" tire will be introduced, which is designed to degrade particularly quickly. The many different strategy options should make for an exciting race Sunday.
