Fastest in qualifying, fastest again in super pole qualifying, third pole position of 2019 and a commanding start-finish victory: Sébastien Buemi was the superior man in the first of the two final races at the Brooklyn Circuit in New York City.

As the race highlights show, the twelfth race of the season was full of hullabaloo. Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne was also involved in two incidents.

Nissan confirms the record series
Only Sébastien Buemi was oblivious to it all. After 45 minutes plus one lap, he was just under a second ahead of Mitch Evans (Jaguar) and 1.2 seconds ahead of Antonio Felix da Costa (BMW).

Nissan e.dams was able to celebrate its first victory as a team. Only the illness of the absent French team boss clouded the joy.

Buemi thus also gave his nine team its first triumph in FIA Formula E. Nissan e.Dams is already the ninth team with a victory in the varied 2018/19 season. Six pole positions in a season and 15 placings in Super Pole qualifying have never before been achieved by any team.

For the Frenchman himself, it was the 13th victory in Formula E, the first in more than two years (Berlin on May 26, 2017).

Sébastien Buemi: "I'm pretty excited to have finally won again. I really wanted to win today and I dedicate this victory to our team boss Jean-Paul Driot, who has not been well this year in terms of health. I'm happy for the whole team. We were so close to success many times and never gave up."

Vergne makes it exciting
Since Vergne finished 15th and came away empty-handed, four drivers still had a theoretical chance of winning the championship before the final race on July 14 (see separate report). With 130 points, the Frenchman from the DS Techeetah team still had a clear lead. However, the same thing that happened late on Saturday evening CEST could not happen to him again in Sunday's second final race.

If Lucas di Grassi, who still finished in 5th place after a race to catch up and then scored 108 points, Mitch Evans (106) or Buemi (104) had scored another bull's eye when Vergne scored zero, one of his three pursuers would have become champion. A total of 29 points were still up for grabs in the 14th and final race of the 2018/19 season.

Sébastien Buemi controlled the action from the front. Whether he succeeds again will be seen on Sunday eveningfiaformulae.com
