Ferrari: Back to the WEC with 680 hp 🎥
COMEBACK 50 years after its last outing with the 312 P, Ferrari is once again competing in the World Endurance Championship. The new 499P race car is equipped with a biturbo V6 gasoline engine, electric motor and all-wheel drive.
499P is the name of Ferrari's new Le Mans car, with which the Italians will compete in the FIA WEC Endurance Championship next year. With the type designation, the manufacturer recalls the racing history of the prancing horse. As early as the 1960s and 1970s, prototypes were given the letter P as an appendix.
Kick-off at the 1000 miles of Sebring
Five decades after the racing successes of Ronnie Petersen and Tim Schenken in the 312 P with 450-hp V12, Ferrari is now about to start an endurance race again with the 499P. The premiere will be on March 17, 2023, at the 1000 Miles of Sebring with starting numbers 50 and 51.
Vehicle weight is 1030 kilograms
As a hybrid vehicle in the Le Mans hypercar class, the Ferrari 499P starts with a 3-liter V6 biturbo gasoline engine derived from the 296 GTB/GTS model in front of the rear axle and an electric motor on the front axle, which together produce a system output of 500 kW (680 hp). Power is distributed to all four wheels via an 8-speed sequential transmission, and the vehicle weighs 1030 kilograms.
Efficient use of energy with 900 volt system
The design of the 499P is based on a completely new carbon monocoque. It was strictly adapted to aerodynamic requirements with the help of the Ferrari Styling Centre with Director Flavio Manzoni. The brake-by-wire braking system and the recuperation system on the front axle ensure optimum efficient use of energy from the 900-volt system.
