Christopher Zöchling got into a clinch at the start in Monza. The specialist drivers could not complain about a lack of fights in the midfield (Porsche photos).

The season finale of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Monza last weekend was a mirror image of the season for Fach Auto Tech. Tough duels in the midfield, chases to catch up and quite a few setbacks characterized the seventh race weekend of the team from Schwyz in the Supercup.

Qualifying as a weak point
Once again, starting positions in the midfield and backfield made the hunt for top results a difficult undertaking.

Team boss Alex Fach: "That was undoubtedly one of our weaknesses this year. The Cup is so fiercely competitive that even a tiny time deficit means you start from the back. It's then all the more difficult to make up places in the races."

Violation of rules relegates Scherer to the rear
For Fabio Scherer, the season ended with 19th and 17th places. It was already clear after qualifying that it would be very difficult for the 22-year-old from Engelberg to advance further.

During the follow-up check, the prescribed residual amount of two liters of fuel was missing from the tank. This resulted in the cancellation of all times and the banishment to the 32nd and last starting position for both races.

Although Fabio Scherer overtook a total of 28 cars in both Monza races, it wasn't quite enough to score points.

Twice just below the podium
In the races in Monaco and Spa-Francorchamps, Zöchling narrowly missed the podium in fourth place. In Monza, the Austrian finished eleventh on Sunday, which was the best result of the weekend.

The team boss, who has been competing in the Porsche one-make cup with his team since 2013, drew a cautious conclusion afterwards.

Alex Fach: "We know the series very well and have experienced all kinds of ups and downs since we started. But this year was really grueling. We would have been only too happy to offer more to our partners, without whom participation would not have been possible."

Project for the future
The double event in Italy also marked the end of Fach Auto Tech's first season with bio-based fuels. Their introduction was the focus for the Schwyz company in addition to sports.

Alex Fach: "We have learned a lot and met with a positive response with our vehicle in the eFuels design. There is a lot of potential in this project, as we have experienced over the last few months."

The summary of the two Monza races illustrates once again how hard the Supercup is raced.

Title to the Netherlands
With a third-place finish in Saturday's race, Dutchman Larry ten Voorde secured the title as in the previous year. He confirmed this the following day in the final race with his fourth win of the season. Runner-up was Jaxon Evans from New Zealand, who will be racing for the Swiss team in 2019.

As the best driver from Fach Auto Tech, Zöchling takes first place in the Overall classification of the Porsche Supercup 2021 tenth place.

Alex Fach says goodbye to the Supercup in 2021, but perhaps his drivers will still achieve the top results they had hoped for in the Carrera Cup Deutschland.
