Fabian Eggenberger alone on a wide field
After airfield and parking lot circuits, the first of the difficult races on army grounds in western Switzerland followed in Bure. Among the nine riders from the 2016 Suzuki Grand Prix, Fabian Eggenberger was in a class of his own. After already setting a clear best time in the first run on the 4033-meter-long tank track, the Zurich native crossed the light barrier three seconds faster in his second attempt. This resulted in a lead of no less than 4.5 seconds over the runner-up - and his name was Heiko Leiber. Leiber took advantage of the absence of Sandro Fehr, who was competing in another one-make cup this weekend and finished second there. Leiber was also pleased with second place in the L2 class up to 1600 cc. As fourth in this class Andreas Saner finally managed a podium finish in the Suzuki Grand Prix 2016, after he was often found in front in the previous year. Bruno Beiker and Gilbert Denzer were the next best Suzuki drivers.
The training sessions for the Swiss Championship could still be held in the dry, at the pre-start for the first race run it started to rain once again. Patrick Flammer attacked with his Suzuki Swift Evo 2000 before it got really wet and marked the fifth best time in the class E1 up to 2000 cc, although he had been surprised by an already wet spot. Shortly before the second race run the rain stopped, but the track could not dry completely. The Glarner was minimally faster, but could not improve among the 20 competitors.
