After all plans had fallen through, Lukas Eugster considered retiring from racing for the time being. Through the mediation of fellow racer Hanspeter Bischofberger, the man from Herisau unexpectedly came into contact with the company Caron Fahrzeugtechnik. The company now provides him with a CN sports car of the type Ligier JS53 Evo with Honda racing engine.

Lukas Eugster: "I'm insanely lucky. It's almost too good to be true."

Significantly faster than with the Tatuus-Renault
Last week, Eugster was allowed to drive the sports car purchased from Horag Hotz Racing and optimally prepared for the first time on the Anneau du Rhin. The Appenzeller was correspondingly nervous and eager to see how the new car would feel.

Lukas Eugster: "After two or three laps, the nervousness disappeared. In the end, I was a good four seconds faster here than last year in warmer temperatures with the Formula Renault. The Ligier gives me a lot of confidence, all movements in the car are smooth. You can feel that 15 years lie between the construction of the Tatuus-Renault and the Ligier-Honda. I never thought I would get to grips with it so quickly."

The video shows him making a fast exit on the Anneau du Rhin in Alsace:

Racing commitment for the company anniversary
In order to present himself properly to the outside world, Eugster founded the Caron Racing team. Accordingly, the racing sports car and the towing vehicle are decked out in the colors of the company from Altstätten. The company's managing director explains the reasons for his commitment.

Christoph Schumacher: "Normally, we tend to support youth work. Now, on the one hand, we are celebrating our 25th anniversary, and on the other hand, we are active in the vehicle sector and employ many employees with an affinity for cars. This met with a positive response, so we're doing it right now and have bought all the material."

Closer to the top
Now it's up to the sports car rookie to make the most of it. As in the previous year, he is concentrating on the slalom championship races. And he does so with ambition.

Lukas Eugster: "I want to get closer to Philip Egli and Marcel Maurer and fight for the podium places in the overall classification. Depending on the track, this should be possible. We're running the car as a family team, but I can still count on valuable technical support from Hotz."

After the slalom test days next weekend in Ambri, the race premiere for the new Caron Racing team will take place on April 6 in Interlaken.

April season start
The season begins on April 6 with the slalom in Interlaken, where Eugster has two class rivals in the CN-2000, and continues on August 28 with the Auto-Renntage Frauenfeld, virtually the team's home race.
