Ecurie Basilisk: A new club champion

CHANGE OF POWER The Ecurie Basilisk is the oldest (since 1956) and largest racing club in northwestern Switzerland. After seven years of domination by Giuliano Piccinato, the LOC pilot Raymond Stofer emerged as club champion for the first time. The 2017 racing season of Ecurie Basilisk ended with the General Assembly, traditionally held in March, followed by the "Ecurie-Obe" at the Swissôtel Le Plaza in Basel. The AGM went over swiftly, as no new elections were due and the annual accounts looked positive with a small profit of 3500 francs.

The membership as of December 31 was 141 people, three more than in the previous year. This makes the Ecurie, presided over by Beat Wetzel from Aesch, the largest association of its kind in northwestern Switzerland. But unfortunately too small to act as organizer of a race.

For this purpose, it organizes its own club championship every year, in which every classified competitor is reimbursed at least the annual fee as a bonus. The prize money for 2017 amounted to 7300 Swiss francs.

Only first and second places in slaloms
For once, it wasn't Giuliano Piccinato who took the biggest prize. The garage owner from Bättwil won the 2017 Mountain Cup in his Honda Integra as part of the Swiss Mountain Championship. However, his additional slalom starts were just not enough to be ahead in the club championship with ten countable results. Especially since the points are awarded according to class strength and not according to a uniform scheme.

Thus, with 887.60 to 864.71 points, Raymond Stofer swings on top for the first time. With his optimal Cooper S, which was previously used in the Mini Challenge Switzerland, the driver from Herznach celebrated only first and second places in the LOC2 class. The thousand won will now be used to buy four new racing tires.

The new and old champion with their trophy for 2017: Raymond Stofer and Giuliano Piccinato.

Third place overall as the best driver with an international license went to Andreas Stucki, who is also one of the strongest in the Clio Cup Central Europe on the circuit.

Frédéric Yerly joins the Honda Racing Team Schmid
Some of the drivers present at the championship ceremony revealed their plans for 2018, if they have anything new in mind. For example, Piccinato, who will participate in the Lotus V6 Cup Suisse with an Exige 350 - which he had acquired in 2017 as a replacement for the Caterham just for fun. Cup director Norbert Sieber persuaded him to...

The Honda Racing Team Schmid from Reinach plans five VLN entries with the Civic TCR currently updated by JAS. The new third man alongside Roland Schmid and Roger Vögeli will be Frédéric Yerly. He won the TMG GT86 Cup with Toyota Swiss Racing in 2016 and 2017 in the VLN.

Kevin Mostberger, who crashed his Group A Honda in Anzère, is switching to the LOC slaloms for financial reasons, where he will be competing in a new Hyundai i20 N.

What happened in 2017 in detail can be found in the detailed seasonal report on the Ecurie Basilisk homepage.
