Ecurie Basilisk: Out-of-towners clean up

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE TO ANDY STUCKI The Ecurie Basilisk is one of the oldest motor sport clubs in Switzerland. For the first time, an international driver from the canton of St. Gallen became the deserved club champion. Andreas Stucki has been successfully competing in the Central European Renault Clio Cup for several years. In 2019, he finished third overall.

With the 64th General Assembly and the traditional Ecurie Obe at the Gasthof zum Ochsen in Arlesheim BL, the Ecurie Basilisk closed the past association season and simultaneously ushered in the new one. Founded in Basel on January 11, 1956 by seven regional racers and racing enthusiasts, it is still one of the largest associations of its kind in Switzerland today with 133 more or less active members.

Active members are rewarded
Thanks to a prudent board of directors, led by president Beat Wetzel, a prize money of more than 6000 Swiss francs could be distributed among the 23 classified racers also for 2019. Many more took part in various races but did not report their results or did not achieve at least three classifications.

In addition, there was a fun championship endowed with 1200 francs, in which non-licensed players were also allowed to participate. This is to be upgraded even more for 2020 following a decision by the AGM.

International flagship
For the first time in decades, the club championship title went to Andy Stucki, a successful racing driver who does not hail from northwestern Switzerland, and one who only races in circuit races with an international license. With his top results in the Renault Clio Central Europe Cup and the magnificent triumph in the Clio Open at the Formula 1 in Hockenheim, the 34-Garagian from Schmerikon on the Upper Lake of Zurich collected more points than anyone else.

Stucki has been a member of Ecurie Basilisk since 2004. The St. Gallen native has always been ranked high in the championship in the last few years, but never in first place. This is rewarded with 1000 francs prize money in addition to a trophy.

Who beats more opponents gets more points
Benno Berchtold, a resident of Rotkreuz in the canton of Solothurn, was celebrated as runner-up. The 61-year-old collected his points, the amount of which depends on the respective class strength, in the Lotus V6 Cup Suisse. In this one-make cup, he took the title in the Production class, as he had done the previous year. Berchtold took home a trophy and an envelope containing 750 Swiss francs.

Third place overall and 500 Swiss francs in prize money went to Raymond Stofer, who is one of the fastest in LOC slaloms with his Mini Cooper S. After winning the club championship in 2017 and 2018, his victories and second places were no longer enough to win the title, not least because of the reduced class strength.

Bruno Ianniello and Giuliano Piccinato, two other former club and Swiss champions, finished behind him.
