ITR already presented the DTM Electric concept a year ago. It includes sprint races with the possibility of automated battery changes during the mandatory pit stop.

Just in time for the finale of the 2020 DTM at Hockenheim with the last two races of the Class 1 touring cars with four-cylinder turbo engines, the DTM umbrella organization ITR shows what will happen after that. In the future, the platform will be based on five top-class pillars. The DTM, DTM Trophy, DTM Classic, DTM Electric and DTM Esports are to guarantee a unique motosport experience.

Proven concept
Two races per series per weekend and only one driver per car are proven factors and guarantors of excitement that all strategically interlock. In the future, the DTM Trophy with its production-based GT4 cars will be seen more than ever as a direct springboard for young talents into a DTM cockpit.

The premiere of virtual motorsports in the DTM environment already took place in May 2020 with the Esports Classic Challenge.

Digital...
DTM Esports appeals to a rather young target group. It brings together professional racing drivers and ambitious SimRacers in the digital races.

...classic...
DTM Classic with races for historic cars from DTM, DRM, Group C and Formula 1 will provide nostalgic moments for older generations and will undoubtedly also cause amazement and enthusiasm among the younger audience.

The Touring Car Classics have been thrilling the public for years. From 2021, they will be an integral part of the race weekends as the DTM Classic.

...and electric
The DTM Electric is set to arrive from 2023 and take electric motorsport to the next level. It promises spectacular racing with powerful, efficient and fast cars, a cost-efficient modular concept and top-level safety.

A first demonstration vehicle will be presented at the DTM season finale in Hockenheim. The development was carried out in close cooperation between ITR and the renowned automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler, which will become the DTM's series and innovation partner. The next step will be to develop a DTM Electric prototype.

From 2021 GT3 sprint races
After the end of the touring car era, the future belongs to sports cars based on the FIA GT3 regulations. Equal opportunities for the different vehicle concepts are ensured by a separate, uniform vehicle classification.

In addition to power and displacement, it also takes into account the vehicle's center of gravity, for example, and - as in the 2020 DTM Trophy - is track-dependent. New, however, are the success weights of 25, 18 and 15 kilograms for the three best-placed drivers, valid for the following race.

DTM for professionals only
The unique selling point remains that professional racing drivers - with international A or B licenses - contest two sprint races over 55 minutes plus one lap in one car. There will still be no driver changes in the DTM.

Since almost every manufacturer has a GT3 sports car in its portfolio, DTM fans can look forward to brand diversity.

However, the mandatory tire change remains a fixed component, which has to be completed in the shortest possible time with a maximum of six mechanics and two impact wrenches.

2021 schedule with nine race weekends
In view of the difficulty in assessing the incidence of infection, the DTM will not start the 2021 season until the end of May. As originally planned for 2020, the new DTM venues are the new St. Petersburg circuit in Russia and Monza.
