In a joint venture with HWA (formerly the Mercedes entry team) that was dissolved before the turn of the year, R-Motorsport entered four Aston Martin Vantage cars in the 2019 DTM. These were sold to Japan even before the last DTM race in 2019.

The official announcement states that the Swiss company has undertaken a reassessment of its motorsport commitment. According to the team boss and co-owner, this led to the result that new priorities are being set for the future.

The DTM commitment would not be effective for this purpose. It will therefore be terminated after just one season.

Dr. Florian Kamelger: "We will announce what we have decided for 2020 at a later date. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Gerhard Berger and ITR in particular, Dieter Gass (Head of Audi Sport, red.) and Jens Marquardt (Head of BMW Motorsport) for their joint commitment. BMW in particular was an exceptionally helpful partner for us."

The DTM umbrella organization ITR has not yet commented on what the exit of R-Motorsport or Aston Martin as the third brand alongside Audi and BMW means for the immediate future of Europe's most popular touring car racing series.

Will the GT3 program continue?
It has already been announced that R-Motorsport will continue to be represented at all sprint and endurance races of the GT World Challenge Europe (formerly Blancpain GT Series). The Italian Formula 2 driver Luca Ghiotto and the DTM-experienced Swede Tom Blomqvist were announced as new drivers.

Whether the team will stick to this remains to be seen. The first GT3 race is scheduled for the first weekend in February with two Aston Martin Vantage cars at the 12 Hours of Bathurst in Australia, the first round of the 2020 Intercontinental GT Challenge.

Team founders and owners Dr. Andreas Bänziger and Dr. Florian Kamelger with Paul di Testa and Jake Dennis, two of their four 2019 DTM drivers.
