DTM: Curious end to the season for Nico Müller

To explain beforehand: Neither for Nico Müller nor for Pascal Wehrlein was Sunday's race at Hockenheim of any particular significance. A drive-through penalty had set Müller far back, which is why points were no longer possible. Wehrlein had already clinched the title early on Saturday and started from the very back on Sunday.

But the battle between the two for the proverbial "golden pineapple" became one of the highlights of the final race. Mercedes driver Pascal Wehrlein fought with a knife between his teeth and dueled with the Audi driver from Bern. The maneuvers of the newly crowned champion were rather borderline.

The hairpin bend at the Hockenheimring in particular was the scene of repeated curious actions between the two. Müller would have preferred to bite the steering wheel when Wehrlein braked him roughly on lap 22. He vented his frustration over the radio.

With just 26 points, Nico Müller ends his second season in the DTM in 21st place overall. The likeable driver from Bern managed to finish in the points in six races.
