The Oman Oil Marketing International Drift Series will be held for the second time in 2019. It consists of three internationally staged events at the Muscat Arena and attracts some of the best in their field from around the world. The spectator numbers are correspondingly large.
Lattesso as new sponsor
As at FIA Intercontinental Cup last November in Japan, Yves Meyer was the only Central European in the illustrious circle of drift artists from around the world. With Lattesso, the new co-owner of EventSeelisberg showed off a new sponsor on the BMW F22 Eurofighter.
Unfortunately, the Swiss had to compete with a handicap. As he did not have his usual competition tires available, Meyer had to resort to conventional tire material from Oman.
Yves Meyer: "With summer tires I would have had more grip. So I couldn't build up the necessary speed either. I really had to fight. The air freight with the right tires for the next race is already on its way."
Return in February
Although Meyer qualified directly for the battles of the top 16, he was eliminated in the second round against a Qatari. As the best rider after the four who contested the small and large final, Meyer nevertheless finished in a good fifth place on points, leaving some well-known veterans behind him.
So the Swiss team could start the flight home reasonably satisfied. Already next week it goes back to Oman for the second championship race.
Yves Meyer: "The event, which is super organized by the Oman Automobile Club, is awesome. The facility in Muscat is designed for many different types of motorsports. It's fun to drive in the middle of the European winter in such a place at 38 degrees. It's good training for the upcoming season in Europe."
