The latest short film by Kevin Fluri from Oschersleben shows how quickly huge joy can turn into disappointment. At the sixth round of the Drift Kings International Series in the infield of the northern German motorsport arena, Yves Meyer qualified best with his BMW F22 Eurofighter. This meant that he had to face Sergey Kremets, who was a "doable" opponent, in the battles - advancing to the next round was really just a matter of form for the Lucerne native.
Fell for a trick?
In the lead lap he overtook the Ukrainian almost effortlessly. With 170 km/h at the entry and 113 km/h on average, Meyer had the highest speed of all the drifters, as he had in practice.
But when the Ukrainian, who had started ahead of him in the Chase Run, lost coolant from his Mercedes - whether intentionally or not remains to be seen - the chaser from Switzerland failed to notice.
Meyer promptly slid both rear wheels of his BMW off the racing line and into the mud. A no-go in drifting.
Disappointment despite winning place
It was of no use that the Swiss from Central Switzerland was able to catch up with his opponent until the finish and was the clear winner in all other points. Yves Meyer was thus out of the race and could start the long journey home to Seelisberg early.
Yves Meyer: "Yes, I am very disappointed. Everything would have been possible. An experienced driver should have seen that. You could also see on the livestream how the Ukrainian lost cooling water. At least I scored so many points despite the early exit that I moved up from seventh to fifth in the championship."
At the final race on October 5/6 in Greece, the best case scenario is still third or fourth final place in 2019.
