If the third Formula Drift race weekend in the USA in June in Englishtown near New York had to be written off as exhausting but instructive due to technical and other problems, the fourth meeting of the world's best championship in this discipline brought a sense of achievement for Team Drift Force from Seelisberg.
Rewarded groundwork
The primary goal at Lake Erie Speedway in Pennsylvania was a top-20 finish for Yves Meyer and Joshua C. Reynolds in qualifying. Soon the revisions to the BMW engines proved to be a good investment. The base setup also fit right away.
Even when heavy rain started shortly before qualifying, the American-backed team of the two motorsport-mad operators of EventSeelisberg was able to adjust the KW-Competiton suspensions in the two BMW F22 Eurofighters to an almost sensational wet setup in just a few minutes.
End of the line in the quarter finals
Finishing seventh (Meyer) and twelfth (Reynolds), both far exceeded their own expectations on what was for them a new drift race track with looming boundary walls. Unfortunately, the US-Swiss resident of Nidwalden then made a mistake in the Top-32 battle. This thwarted the victory and the advancement.
Meyer, on the other hand, fared better in the Top 32 elimination as well as in the Top 16 final. Making it into the Top 8 battle against Fredric Aasbo is now one of the best experiences in his drifting career so far.
Proud of the whole team
Unfortunately, the difference in performance between the two cars was too great in the third corner. Despite the premature out, the man from Schwyz draws a positive balance of the fourth US weekend in 2021.
Yves Meyer: "We are mega proud of our performance at Lake Erie. Now I've moved up to tenth position in the Formula Drift Championship again. Now we're looking forward to traveling back to the USA to Seattle as early as next week. We were already able to drive there last year. So there are a few experience values available."
