Behind this commitment, in addition to the enthusiasm for racing, is the clear intention to develop new technologies for the road and to incorporate them from the race car into future road vehicles. Accordingly, DS Performance's findings from Formula E are passed on directly to the R&D research and development department of DS Automobiles, or to that of the PSA Group. However, developing road-relevant technologies is not only DS Performance's credo, it is the basic intention of the racing series.
The races are not held on conventional race tracks but on the public roads of the participating cities, similar to Formula 1 in Monaco. The 2018 season kicked off in Hong Kong on December 2-3 and will continue in Marrakech on January 13. For the first time, a race will also be held in Switzerland: on June 10, 2018, in the streets of Zurich.
Because of the constantly changing tracks, which are not ready until shortly before the race, Formula E requires a new kind of race preparation for the drivers. Getting used to the race tracks takes place in advance in special simulators, like the one we were able to try out for ourselves at DS Performance west of Paris - a peculiar, impressive experience. Its compact and relatively simple design also makes it easy to transport.
