Delétraz: Fourth season in Formula 2
LIKE ONCE FABIO LEIMER Louis Delétraz will remain in the second-highest FIA racing car class in 2020. The Geneva-based driver's clear goal is the championship title. Following the endurance race in Bahrain, Louis Delétraz was allowed to spend a day testing the Rebellion LMP1 prototype. It is quite possible that the 22-year-old from Geneva will join the Swiss-flagged sports car team, which currently has no Swiss drivers in its squad, in the foreseeable future.
However, Delétraz has other plans for the time being: in 2020, he will be tackling his fourth season in FIA Formula 2.
Three podium places instead of victories
There was actually only one goal for him in 2019 - the title. The son of former Grand Prix pay driver Jean-Denis Delétraz was a long way from that. More than three podium finishes in Monaco, Silverstone and Sochi were not enough, even though he led several races. First and foremost, technical problems thwarted his first victory.
By returning to Charouz Racing System, where he already raced in 2018, he is now apparently hoping for a breakthrough.
Louis Delétraz: "As a driver who already has a super license, my ultimate goal for 2020 was to get into Formula 1. But sometimes things go differently than you plan. Now I'm trying to win again in Formula 2 with Charouz. I'm looking forward to it and will do my best."
Fastest in the test drives
The test drives following the finale in Abu Dhabi give him confidence. On two of the three test days, Delétraz was the fastest in Charouz's Dallara F2, and in the end was also the fastest overall.
Louis Delétraz: "It was only a test drive. But I didn't need any time to get used to it and was immediately involved, which was reflected in the lap times. I'm therefore looking forward to attacking again with Charouz. Many experienced people from 2018 are still with us and I am confident that we can achieve something together."
Memories of Fabio Leimer
After Racing Engenieering and Rapax in 2017, Charouz in 2018 and Carlin in 2019, Delétraz is making his fourth team change for the coming season. From 2011 to 2014, Fabio Leimer "consumed" three teams in the predecessor series GP2 and in his fourth season won the coveted title, which the Frenchman is now also aiming for in this way.
However, the biggest racing car success to date for a Swiss driver outside of Formula 1 did not help the man from Aargau. Today, Leimer, who contested his last car races two years ago with Octane126 in the Ferrari Challenge and VLN, has disappeared into obscurity.
