Performance, efficiency and sustainability combined in one race car: that was the challenge for the Cupra team tasked with developing the first all-electric touring race car for the upcoming PURE ETCR.

Good genes
The Cupra e-Racer is based on the latest generation of the Cupra Leon. With its fundamentally revised chassis, it provides an excellent basis for an even more powerful and at the same time more efficient touring race car. Its top speed is 270 km/h.

The Head of Technical Development at Cupra Racing explains some technical background.

Xavi Serra: "The chassis based on the new Leon is completely new. Not only is it 50 millimeters longer, but it is once again much more trimmed for efficiency. The floor assembly and most moving parts of the body are strictly standardized. The bumpers, door sills, wheel arches and spoiler, on the other hand, have been redesigned. In addition, new aerodynamic components such as a front splitter have been installed."

More power, more efficiency
The first all-electric racing touring car in the world of motorsport has, among other things, a higher battery capacity compared with the development vehicle. The number of cells grew to 6270.

The battery charging time was also optimized thanks to a new interior layout and better cooling. Safety has also been improved. The battery is now significantly more robust and less sensitive to mechanical damage, for example. The electronics have also been revised and completely reprogrammed.

Evolution to the point
In addition to new battery protectors, various other elements have also been redesigned to take account of the 50 millimeter increase in vehicle length, for example.

Xavi Serra: "We were able to reduce the weight of many components. Internally, the body has undergone significant changes in terms of battery installation and other electrical components. In addition, a number of completely new components have been installed, resulting in improved rigidity of the vehicle.

The Cupra e-Racer's appearance has changed in the course of development. Copper-colored wheels and a petrol-white paint finish give it a special appearance.

Cupra shapes the future of zero-emissions racing
With its four electric motors, the Cupra e-Racer accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. With this outstanding performance and the two drivers Mattias Ekström and Jordi Gené, Cupra is ideally equipped for the new all-electric PURE ETCR.

Xavi Serra: "The Cupra e-Racer was the benchmark for the creation of an international multi-brand competition. From a technical point of view, we paved the way and we are particularly proud of that."
