Last year, Marcel Wälchli and Sven Indermühle had great duels for the two podium places behind series winner Thomas Schmid in the four mountain races for the Berg-SM Junior. Wälchli always kept the upper hand, even if sometimes just barely, and became runner-up, Indermühle third overall.
Four hill climbs and one slalom
Now the two Bernese are switching to the Renault Clio Classic Cup together. Wälchli takes over Denis Wolf's blue champion car, Indermühle a Clio RS III recently acquired by Wolf from Austria. Both rent these racing touring cars and have Denis Wolf look after them on the racecourse.
The four mountain races in Anzère, Oberhallau, Gurnigel and Les Paccots are planned. Plus the Ambri slalom at the end of the year.
Apprenticeship year with ambitions
Both see 2019 as an apprenticeship year, but don't want to settle for rear positions. Indermühle has the advantage that he has always driven front-wheel drive cars on the road as well, while Wälchli is more used to rear-wheel drive. For him, the switch from the Toyota GT86 to the Renault Clio RS III will be a bit bigger, but unlike Indermühle, who has never driven on slicks, he has already completed a private test on the Dijon circuit.
Marcel Wälchli: "For us, this is a super solution. We can both benefit from Wolf's experience and continue to have nice duels. I'm really looking forward to it and I'm curious to see how our fights will turn out."
