Christoph Zwahlen: Good slalom test Röthis
COMEBACK AFTER NEARLY 5 YEARS At the start of the Vorarlberg Drytech Race Cup in Röthis, all eyes were on Christoph Zwahlen. Five years after his accident in Massongex, the man from Thurgau returned to a slalom race track in a new Opel Kadett 16V. If Christoph Zwahlen were superstitious, he would have packed up again right away. First the unloading of his new Opel Kadett didn't work as usual, then the organizer gave him the same start number 142 at the opening round of the Int. Vorarlberger Drytech Race Cup, a slalom at the Drivingcamp Röthis, as the unlucky vehicle from September 1, 2013 in Massongex.
But everything went well after that, even better than expected. The newly rebuilt and now virtually identical E1-Kadett C GT/E with a 2.5-liter 16V engine ran flawlessly. And Zwahlen also felt at home again right away.
Christoph Zwahlen: "It was cold and wet. But those were ideal conditions for testing. Because it won't get any more difficult in 2018. I was able to drive the car right back to the limits and wasn't scared for a moment. On the contrary, the driving pleasure was back, and that was the most important thing."
Swiss premiere on April 22 in Frauenfeld
It wasn't quite enough to win the class, but the result was also secondary. The following video by Haukymedia alias Markus Ulmer shows that he has stepped on the gas:
Christoph Zwahlen: "That was a rollout after a five-year break from racing, and I'm relieved that everything worked well. I'm happy with myself and the car. It was clear to me that I couldn't be among the front runners right away. In addition, I'd only mounted cut slicks, with those drivers with proper rain tires having an advantage."
His first "real" start, in which the Thurgauer wants to determine his position in the national Swiss slalom scene, is now coming up on April 22 at the SM opener in Frauenfeld. Until then, the garage owner from Pfyn wants to change a few details.
His fans - as well as all of Swiss racing - can look forward with anticipation to his further appearances.
