Bratschi: The video of his record ride 🎥

FASTEST TOURING CAR ON THE MOUNTAIN No touring car driver has ever driven as fast as Ronnie Bratschi on the mountain. Driving that sparks fly: No driver has ever been faster than Ronnie Bratschi on the route from St-Ursanne to Les Rangiers in a hill climb in Europe (Photos: Peter Wyss).

Not only Simone Faggioli and Marcel Steiner achieved record times at the St-Ursanne - Les Rangiers hill climb on August 18. With his time of 1'56.865 and an average speed of 159.56 km/h, Ronnie Bratschi in the Mitsubishi Evo VIII Egmo set a European and probably worldwide record for touring cars in hill climbs.

Almost 250 on the speedometer
TNT Video from Italy installed several cameras in and on the 750+ hp E1 touring car. From various runs, they edited together a complete mountain drive by Bratschi from different angles. The images are impressive. The only downer: Because the GPS didn't work properly, the effective top speed before the left-hand bend at Les Grippons isn't displayed. According to the evaluation, it was just over 249 km/h before braking.

The new record holder himself is also impressed by this video.

Ronnie Bratschi: "It's super done. I never see myself from the outside. You can see how smooth the car is on the road and how clean my line is. I can see the speed in the cockpit from the gears and the revs. Driving between walls and guard rails at over 200 km/h is really impressive..."

Engine cooling produces black smoke
What does the black smoke from the exhaust mean?

Ronnie Bratschi: "The load on the engine is enormous on a track like this. That's why we need gasoline to cool it down. In Oberhallau, the smoke was already lower. In the meantime, we're on the safe side with the temperatures and have them so well under control that we can drive leaner."

Ronnie Bratschi is really good. Except for Reitnau, his opponents felt it at every hill climb.

Next record on the Gurnigel?
The next opportunity for spectators to see Ronnie Bratschi - and other mountain monsters - in action will be on September 7/8 at the 50th Nat. Bergrennen Gurnigel. There, Reto Meisel in the Mercedes SLK340 has held the absolute touring car record since 2016.

In the meantime, Bratschi has wiped out one after the other, with the exception of Reitnau, and now intends to do the same at the 2019 Gurnigelrennen. If car and driver continue to be in such good shape and the weather suits, he should succeed.
