Jens Marquardt will head the pilot plant for all BMW Group prototype construction from November. Who will be his definitive successor as Motorsport Director is still undetermined.

Around 700 employees work there on up to six vehicle projects simultaneously. At the interface between development and production, both the product and the manufacturing processes are perfected for series production. They are then handed over to the series production plants.

Markus Flasch, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH, takes over the management of BMW Group Motorsport on an interim basis. After the end of the DTM with the current turbo touring cars (from 2021 with GT sports cars), the factory commitments in the Formula E World Championship and in GT racing will continue.

Numerous successes
Jens Marquardt has been responsible for BMW's motorsport activities since 2011. During this time, the brand won the DTM titles in 2012, 2014 and 2016, as well as various overall and class victories in endurance classics at Daytona, Spa and, most recently, the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.

Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Management for Development at BMW AG: "I would like to thank Jens Marquardt and his team for their many successes. Managing the pilot plant for prototype construction is a neuralgic function in development. With the agile way of working and the experience from motorsport, Jens Marquardt will set new accents here."

Crowning finale
For the retiring BMW motorsport boss, the past ten years will forever be associated with emotional memories.

Jens Marquardt: "I was able to experience all the highs and lows in motorsport together with an exceptional team. The overall victory at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring was a crowning glory of this exciting time. I am very grateful to the BMW Group and the entire motorsport family for all these memories. After 25 years in motorsport, I'm very much looking forward to my new challenge."

The most recent BMW success was the overall victory of the factory-supported customer team Rowe Racing with the M6 GT3 at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
