In the past, some riders complained that they didn't get to do enough and often too late because of the supporting program. This justified criticism did not go unheard by the Gurnigel mountain race club.

Due to the fortunately massive increase in the number of participants in recent years, it has become clear that it is impossible to hold the Gurnigel mountain race in its current format with a total duration of more than twelve hours per day.

Go-karts belong on go-kart tracks - the Gunrigel mountain racing club is now also convinced of this, even if the little speedsters did provide some variety.

Out of consideration for the drivers, officials and spectators, the organizing committee has decided to streamline the supporting programme in order to allow more time for racing. The cab rides, the karts, the theme day and even the historic racing motorcycles have been removed from the program.

The VBG would like to achieve the necessary relaxation with these measures. Of course, the organizer hopes to compensate for the financial losses through the streamlined supporting programme thanks to the continued high number of participants and spectators. After all, the future of this traditional race is at stake.

The 49th Gurnigel National Hill Climb will take place on September 8/9, 2018.
