Audi R8 Cup: Lessons from Rahel Frey

It smelled like a Swiss victory in the Audi Sport Seyffarth R8 LMS Cup at Hockenheim. Ruedi Rhyn secured pole position in Saturday morning's rain-soaked qualifying for the later opening race in the dry, Rahel Frey the second grid position.
Rhyn pays a lesson
At the flying start, Rhyn took the lead, which the Solothurn driver soon snatched from him. However, the driver from Berne, who had switched from the TCR touring car to the GT4 Cup sports car, had not behaved correctly on his first start from the very front and collected a pit drive-through penalty from race control. Before Rhyn took this, he spun and found himself far back in the field of just 12.
Two victories for the factory driver
Rahel Frey, on the other hand, who competed as a points-eligible guest driver with no championship intentions out of loyalty to Audi Sport and Audi Costumer Racing, delivered a flawless performance. Not only on Saturday but also on Sunday after the DTM race with Nico Müller, who presented the biggest trophy to his Audi colleague, the Swiss anthem therefore sounded for the superior winner.
In the second race, she initially gave way to the German Robin Rogalski before overtaking him after a safety car phase and then leaving him behind.
Rahel Frey: "Both my starts could have been a bit better, but Rhyn irritated me a bit on Saturday. But afterwards, the duels back to the front were fun. It was two nice races with the Audi R8 LMS GT4, which I know well from races last year. Regardless of that, I think it's very good that the guys asked me a few things. That shows that they're working on themselves and want to improve."
Ruedi Rhyn also learned a lot on his first Cup weekend. Starting third, he lost three positions on the starting lap for the second race, but fought his way back to fourth place. One lap before the end he had to retire with a technical defect in the pits, but still finished tenth.
