Antonio Giovinazzi will continue to drive the Formula 1 car from Hinwil in 2020. He has scored points three times in the C38 so far.

It will be the soon-to-be 26-year-old's second full season in Formula 1. In 2019, he was the first Italian since 2011 to compete in all races as a regular driver.

Three times in the points
Antonio Giovinazzi scored his first points at the ninth Grand Prix in Austria, followed by more in September at his home race in Monza and then in Singapore. Two races before the end of the season, he is in 18th place in the championship standings with four points.

Team-mate Kimi Räikkönen, who narrowly missed out on his ninth points win with Alfa Romeo Racing in eleventh place at the US GP in Austin, already has 31 points to his name. The 40-year-old Finn still has a contract until 2020.

More to come
Giovinazzi impressed the team from Hinwil and his French boss with his maturity, positive attitude and growth curve.

Frédéric Vasseur: "The way he has integrated into the team and improved over the course of the season promises a lot for the future. He also looked good next to a benchmark like Kimi Räikkönen. We expect him to show his full potential next year with more experience. His work ethic, technical feedback and positive approach will help move the team forward. The continuity in the driver line-up should also contribute to this."

Frédéric Vasseur is holding on to his Italian driver. The extent to which this was also the wish of the Italian partners is not being communicated.
