Last weekend at the Red Bull Ring near Spielberg, Jeffrey Schmidt and Marvin Kirchhöfer from the Callaway Competition racing team continued where they had started at the season opener at Oschersleben.

With third place on Saturday and the first win of the season in Sunday's race, the Corvette duo, newly formed for 2021, rewarded themselves on the Alpine circuit in Styria, Austria, and put Corvette back on track.

Foundation stone for a successful weekend
After Jeffrey Schmidt and his Callaway Corvette team laid the foundation for a successful weekend on Saturday, they followed up 24 hours later.

In a spectacular race at the Red Bull Ring that was thrilling right up to the last lap, the duo not only drove to their first victory of the season on Sunday, they also clinched the tenth triumph for the Corvette brand at the 4.326-kilometer circuit in Austria.

Heavy pressure during the second run
Marvin Kirchhöfer started Sunday's race from the front row and passed pole setter Dennis Marschall after a few meters to take the lead. Behind the Corvette, a violent accident occurred a short time later, which Mercedes driver Maro Engel fortunately survived unscathed. After the restart, Marvin Kirchhöfer and Jeffrey Schmidt, who took over the number #77 Corvette midway through the race, remained in front until the finish.

Throughout the distance, the leading Corvette duo was under pressure from the second-placed Audi, which never trailed by more than 1.5 seconds. In the end, Jeffrey Schmidt brought home his second Corvette victory with a lead of 0.842 seconds.

Competitors always close on their heels

Jeffrey Schmidt: "The hard work has finally paid off. Winning at the Red Bull Ring is not as easy as it might seem on the outside. We couldn't afford any mistakes, the competition was hot on our heels on Sunday. We gave everything and are very happy about the victory. I hope we can now take the momentum to Zandvoort and pick up where we left off at the Red Bull Ring."

The next round of the German GT Championship will be held at Zandvoort in the Netherlands from July 9 to 11.
