Next year, 16 drivers between the ages of 16 and 25 will take to the track in the VW up! GTI Cup.

The Touring Car Junior Cup is organized by the ADAC Regionalclub Weser-Ems. The Cup is aimed explicitly at ambitious drivers who want to switch from karting to motor racing. Career changers should also find a sporting field of activity here.

The 140-hp VW up! GTI Cup is available for less than 25,000 euros. Despite the lowest price, it meets all the requirements of a thoroughbred race car.

Focus on targeted education and training
In this small Cup vehicle, participants will find many technical components whose mastery is a prerequisite in the next higher racing series. These include the height-adjustable motorsport chassis and the ability to change initial axle kinematic values such as toe and camber on the front and rear axles.

In this way, technical understanding and a feel for the vehicle are to be trained. The complete omission of driving aids and the implementation of technical features such as the GPS datalogger and the balance beam braking system underscore the importance of the training character.

The little runabout comes along quickly. Whether the Swiss will also be driving it will become clear after the registration deadline. The interest is there.

From 16 to 25 years
Due to the uniform vehicle, equality of opportunity is guaranteed from the outset. Eight racing events are planned for the premiere season, which will take place in Germany and neighboring countries, as well as joint test days.

Young pilots aged 16 and over who hold an international license are eligible to compete. The maximum age at the time of registration may be 25 years.

Application from Autorama and Helmi Motorsport
The VW up! GTI Cup can be ordered from December 1 via the official form on the website. At the same time, registration will be open. For the 2020 season, the number of vehicles that can be ordered is provisionally limited to 16.

As far as is known, two Swiss teams have applied for two of these limited cars. The Autorama Motorsport team from Wetzikon, which has been successful in the 2019 24H Series, wants to use the extended commitment to promote a young Swiss karting driver. The family team Helmi Motorsport from Otelfingen is also hoping for a commitment. Andreas Helm, briskly driving a TracKing Suzuki in the 2019 slaloms, would like to join in.
