Racing fans have long since marked July 2 in red in their diaries. In addition, there are locals and visitors from the region who come once a year to watch motorsport at close quarters. They make the Reitnau hill climb a unique folk festival that makes the village in the Surental burst at the seams.
No fewer than 238 drivers have registered for the second round of the Swiss Hill Climb Championship. If you subtract the 51 with REG licenses, there are still almost 190 vehicles whose pilots are fighting for points and trophies in the various national categories.
"Rocket Bruno" does the honors
As always, the E1 group of formula-free touring cars is the most heavily populated (77), followed by the InterSwiss group with similar vehicles (56). Many fans will be pleased that "Rocket Bruno" Ianniello is once again taking part in a national hill climb with his Lancia Delta S4.
While Ronnie Bratschi first has to set up a new car after his accident in Hemberg, all the usual contenders for victory - Reto Meisel, Romeo Nüssli, Roger Schnellmann and Thomas Kessler - will be on the grid with their E1 monsters.
A visual and acoustic treat will also be the total of 26 racing sports cars. In the so-called Formula 3000 class, there will be more than ever before at the start in Reitnau, namely six. They will be led by defending champion Eric Berguerand. The people of Aargau in particular can look forward to the two Swiss premieres of Thomas Amweg (Lola) from Ammerswil and Robin Faustini (Reynard) from Suhr.
However, Marcel Steiner will be coming to Reitnau as the SM leader, having taken a stage win for the first time in Hemberg with his LobArt sports car. It will be interesting to see whether the Bernese can confirm this clear upward trend on the 1.6 km sprint track.
