Background: Swisslos offers number lotteries, sports betting and lottery tickets in German-speaking Switzerland, Ticino and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Swisslos transfers the net profit in full to the commissioning cantons and the Principality of Liechtenstein to support the common good. In 2015, gross gaming revenue of CHF 519 million was generated. Swisslos pays out over CHF 600 million to lottery winners each year, as well as around CHF 354 million to the cantonal lottery and sports funds (Swisslos Fund). Swisslos makes CHF 27 million of this available to the Sport-Toto company, which uses it to support national sport. This includes Swiss Olympic, Swiss Sports Aid, Swiss football and Swiss ice hockey. The cantonal funds distributed CHF 327 million to charitable projects and institutions in the areas of culture, sport, the environment and social affairs.
