Porsche: Taycan road trip to the Formula E finale
A road trip from Zurich with the new Porsche Taycan to the Formula E final in London demonstrates top electric performance. Discover the efficiency and performance of the Taycan on a 2,000-kilometer journey.
Start in Zurich - perfection in detail
The road trip begins in Zurich, where the Porsche Taycan proves its maximum performance and attention to detail from the very first kilometers. A summer rain shower demonstrates the impressive aerodynamics: the drops evaporate straight upwards, indicating the optimized body shape. The Taycan drives almost silently, which underlines the lower air resistance and the extended range.
Efficiency on the highway
The first stage through France demonstrates the impressive efficiency of the Taycan. With a 97 kWh Performance Battery Plus, the electric vehicle stores 13.3 kWh more than its predecessor, while at the same time reducing its weight. On the gently sloping route towards Basel and at a constant 130 km/h in France, consumption remains below 18 kWh per 100 km, which enables a range of 500 km. The first charging stop takes place after 460 km in Haudiomont.
Short loading times, long pauses
After five and a half hours of driving, a break is necessary. The Taycan is connected to the charging station and charged to 80 % within 18 minutes, reaching 95 % after a further 10 minutes. The charging times are so short that drivers hardly have to wait for the car.
Across the Channel to London
After another charging stop and the drive through the Eurotunnel, the Taycan drives in left-hand traffic in England. With an efficiency of 16 kWh per 100 km, the vehicle masters the 115 km from Folkestone to the Exhebition Center London without any problems. This is where the Formula E season finale takes place, a highlight of the electric motorsport world.
Technology from Formula E in everyday life
Efficiency is crucial in Formula E. The racing cars recuperate up to 350 kW via the rear axle and 250 kW via the front axle. This technology can also be found in the Taycan. When braking, recuperation takes place first before the mechanical brake intervenes. This happens imperceptibly for the driver and ensures constant braking power.
Taycan as safety car
The Taycan also demonstrates its qualities on the racetrack: it serves as a safety car in Formula E. With 760 kW of power, it sprints to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds and keeps the field together. Efficient use of resources is also crucial here.
The road trip and the insights into Formula E show: The Porsche Taycan impresses with its impressive efficiency and performance. The return journey through five countries with just two short charging stops shows that range and charging times are no longer an issue with this electric car.
