With the support of the auction house RM Sotheby's, the mobile artwork will be called in a worldwide online auction from April 6 to 13, 2021. The entire auction proceeds will benefit the Swiss non-profit association Suisseculture Sociale.
With their donation, Porsche Schweiz AG and the project partners are supporting Swiss cultural professionals whose industry has been particularly hard hit by the Corona pandemic.
Contribution to the preservation of the Swiss cultural scene
Michael Glinski, CEO Porsche Schweiz AG (in the picture block at top left): "With our first purely electric sports car, the Porsche Taycan, Porsche has written corporate history. In collaboration with a renowned artist, we wanted to capture and immortalize this milestone. Thus, the artwork was created under the thematic guardrails of sustainability and electromobility, as well as with a strong focus on Swiss nature. With the auction and donation of the proceeds, we would like to make a contribution to the preservation of the Swiss cultural scene, which has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic. Porsche is steering safely through the crisis. We would like to give something back to society."
From March Tour through various Swiss centers
Strongly affected by the pandemic is the pop-up restaurant Leuehof by Nenad Mlinarevic and Valentin Diem, where the mobile artwork was created and exhibited. Porsche is a temporary partner of the restaurant and exhibited the first purely electric Porsche sports car as an Artcar in the Artspace there.
The restaurant will not reopen due to the regulations that are still in force. For this reason, the Taycan Artcar is touring various Porsche Centers in Switzerland and can be viewed: from March 1 at the Porsche Center Geneva and from March 22 at the Porsche Center Zurich.
After the auction, the Artcar will stand in the Porsche Center Zug, where it will be handed over to the highest bidder.
Cooperation started with Project 1 Motorsport
The Taycan Artcar marks the second round of collaboration between New York-based artist Richard Phillips and the German sports car manufacturer. Phillips already designed a Porsche Artcar in 2019 - together with the then Porsche works driver Jörg Bergmeister.
The Porsche 911 RSR from Project 1 Motorsport made history at the 24 Hours of Le Mans: By winning the GTE-Am class, it became the first artcar ever to win the world's toughest endurance race.
Image of landscape painter Adolf Dietrich template
For the Taycan Artcar, Richard Phillips transferred his large-format painting "Queen of the Night" onto the body of the Porsche Taycan 4S. The painting was created in 2010 in reference to the work of the legendary Swiss landscape painter Adolf Dietrich.
Richard Phillips (pictured below right): "The full color splendor of Queen of the Night unfolds at the rear of the car, where the Queen of the Night flower completely envelops the bumper and is impressively illuminated by the Taycan's characteristic horizontal light strip. The starting point for the design concept of my Queen of the Night was the Taycan as an instantly recognizable symbol of electric mobility and speed."
Harmony with the curved lines of the car
The decision to work with a painting inspired by Adolf Dietrich was based on the idea of reflecting the natural environment with its beauty and composition in harmony with the curved lines of the Taycan.
Richard Phillips: "Adolf Dietrich's close relationship with the landscape was more than just a representation of his surroundings. It was to express the soul of Switzerland and Lake Constance. For this, his art is recognized worldwide, and it is something that has moved me deeply."
Live foiling was applied in the restaurant
Like the 2019 911 RSR's wrapping, the Taycan's was implemented by German specialists SignalDesign. Phillips' artwork was printed in full size on vinyl in new perspectives and angles according to the artist's ideas and then applied to the vehicle using hot air guns.
