Nissan: Protection for pedestrians by warning sound
SOUNDS OF SILENCE The electrically powered Nissan Leaf comes with a new acoustic warning system with soundscape from the sound designer. There is almost no drive noise in the Nissan Leaf, but there is a new sound to warn pedestrians. An acoustic warning system (AVAS, Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System) provides information about the approaching electric car and thus improves the safety level of the electric pioneer.
The AVAS complies with the new European regulations. It generates the artificially generated driving sound "Canto", which draws the attention of slow road users to the electric vehicle.
Sound score specially adapted for Europe
"Canto" adapts to the environment and is activated automatically as soon as the vehicle is traveling slower than 30 km/h. The Nissan Technical Centre Europe has again adapted the sound score developed by the sound designers and engineers in Japan locally for Europe.
The sound was intentionally composed to vary in tone and pitch - depending on whether the vehicle is accelerating, decelerating or reversing.
Blind spot assist and digital interior mirror
As a further innovation, the Leaf has an integrated wifi hotspot, smartphone integration and an intelligent blind spot assistant as standard. A digital interior mirror with camera function also provides the best view in every situation.
The innovations are also accompanied by a significant price reduction of the Leaf models.
