Müller: Success must be celebrated

FANFEST IN HIS HOMELAND Two weeks after the conclusion of the DTM, Nico Müller celebrated his runner-up title win together with fans, friends and sponsors - right in the middle of his home community of Blumenstein. Even if it wasn't enough to win the title in the end - finishing second and thus runner-up in Europe's most popular and toughest touring car racing series is also an overwhelming success. And Nico Müller celebrated this with a fan party in Blumenstein just two weeks after securing the title in Hockenheim, where he ended his brilliant season with a victory.

Proud fellow citizen
He grew up here with his parents Ursula and Christian Müller. After the fastest resident had his domicile somewhere else in between, he now returned to his home community near Thun with his life partner Victoria. Many of his fellow citizens are delighted about this, led by municipal president Regula Hänni, who presented him with a gift at the celebration on Saturday afternoon.

Nico Müller: "After all, motorsport is not a particularly present topic in an area like this. It's nice when people join in the excitement and notice this. Representing this village makes me proud."

In addition to fans, friends and guests from all over Switzerland and abroad, quite a few fellow citizens also attended the party. Some have never seen a real DTM car (a "race cab" from 2018) up close.

Thanks to the team
Success has many fathers. For this reason, the honoree naturally did not fail to thank all his loyal companions, friends and helpers. First and foremost those from Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline.

Nico Müller: "I was the only one in the field to finish all the races. This shows what a phenomenal job my mechanics did. And the fact that my Audi was so fast on top of that is thanks to my race and data engineer. In terms of composition, we're still a relatively young team. My race engineer Felix Fechner and I only really got together from mid-2018. Since then, everyone knows what they want from the other."

Focus 2020 on qualification
The most successful Swiss DTM driver of all time knows exactly what he needed to win the title and where champion René Rast's strengths lay.

Nico Müller: "You have to take your hat off to René - he was an absolute force in qualifying. Starting from far in front makes life a lot easier, and it's easier to control a race that way. We had the best race pace, but when you only come away fifth or sixth on average, it becomes more difficult. So we know where we can improve for 2020."
