Milena Crusi was already a bit excited, combined with a touch of fear, before she lined up for her first training run in the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup at the Frauenfeld slalom on April 26. As Miss Yokohama and thus likeable ambassador of the tire partner in this new slalom brand cup with the new Suzuki Swift Sport, she courageously took on a completely new challenge.
Difficult conditions
The 20-year-old from Zurich didn't know what to expect. Because it rained first in practice and only dried out towards the race, the demands on her - and all the riders - were made even tougher.
Milena Crusi: "I'm curious to see what it looks like in the end. I'm not afraid, but I have respect. And dry I would prefer..."
Objective fully met
Her initial fear that she might get lost in the maze of pylons did not prove true. On the contrary, the young newcomer completed the 2759-meter course in both training and race runs without a single scoring error.
Because Franziska Maissen did not manage to do so, Miss Yokohama did not finish in last place, as desired, but in 36th and penultimate place. The time gap of 15.01 seconds to winner Marcel Muzzarelli and 9.71 seconds to her experienced team partner Peter Wyss (27th), the sports editor of AutoSprintCH, was absolutely within bounds.
Miss Yokohama's enthusiasm was correspondingly high.
Milena Crusi: "That was awesome! This is the highlight of my year in office so far as Miss Yokohama, and even surpasses the Geneva Salon. I'm proud of myself because I met personal expectations."
Miss Yokohama was also positively surprised by the qualities of the tire brand she represents.
Milena Crusi: "It does slide a bit in the wet. But I never thought the car would behave so stably. These tires are really super."
Praise from fellow racers
Their performance was also recognized by the experienced slalom racers from the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup. Jürg Jucker took the floor on behalf of his colleagues.
Jürg Jucker: "I didn't want to be in their shoes... First driving in the wet for the first time, then in the dry, and this without a single. Driving error. Hats off, congratulations before this achievement!"
How it came about, you can read in the Miss Yokohama Blog
Milena Crusi describes how the whole thing came about and how she experienced her race weekend in detail in her periodic blog, which can be read at the following link.
