In the future, Matchbox cars, playsets and packaging will be made from 100 percent recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastic materials.
With this step, the Mattel company is supporting its goal of using only sustainable materials in its products by 2030.
For almost 70 years, the cult brand has inspired children to give free rein to their imagination and playfully explore the world around them. To date, Matchbox sells more than 40 million model cars every year.
Recycled zinc, stainless steel and plastic recyclate
Matchbox's new Tesla model (the original on the left in the gallery) is made of 62 percent recycled zinc, one percent stainless steel and 37 percent recycled plastic. The concept car has been certified as carbon neutral by Natural Capital Partners. Carbon credits benefit the preservation of grasslands in Colorado and Montana.
The mission "On the Journey to a Better Future" was created to promote environmentally friendly technologies and behaviors and to steer children toward a more sustainable future.
Packaging made from completely plastic-free material
This is expressed in new product lines and packaging that feature more environmentally friendly materials - while retaining the details typical of the brand. In the process, more electric vehicles as well as chargers are to be offered in gas station playsets.
The Matchbox Power Grabs assortment is now available with a variety of 1:64 scale original vehicles. It is the first die-cast range with plastic-free packaging using paper and certified wood fiber.
