Calendar 2017: A year with pin-up Zoe Scarlett
As a pin-up girl and burlesque dancer, Zoe Scarlett is famous beyond the country's borders. But the Basel native, who creates her own calendar every year, can also be very shirt-sleeved. For her calendar, the blonde lolls with relish on various Muscel cars such as a '32 Ford hot rod or a '58 Corvette for drag racing, in the style of the '40s and '50s. "Pin-up girls came into vogue during wartime," explains Zoe Scarlett, adding, "During World War II, U.S. soldiers who were deployed far from home owned these photographs and notebooks." That certain innocence coupled with obvious appeal. Zoe Scarlett also makes a splash with this, her burlesque shows are sold out and have a high female audience share.
Restoring a Yank is no problem for Zoe
But the down-to-earth girl can also do things quite differently. Having practically grown up in her father's garage, where he has been restoring classic cars for 40 years, Zoe takes on a '68 Chevy Camaro at the age of 19, grinds the skin down to the metal and takes the defenseless car completely apart. She restores the icon herself from the ground up and proudly sells the finished gem.
Life with both arms up to the elbow in the oil pan also occurs on stage, a hotly popular show act is Zoe Scarlett in blue overalls in front of a pink Cadillac front. On December 9, she celebrates her 10th stage anniversary with a brilliant show at the Häbse Theater in Basel.
