Joe Biden: Mr. President drives Corvette 🎥

PASSION Democrat Joe Biden is, as things stand, the next US president. The fact that he is no longer allowed to drive himself in this office had already troubled him as vice president under Barack Obama. In Jay Leno's garage, Joe Biden had two thick strips of rubber laid on the asphalt.

Joe Biden's passion for automobiles began in his childhood. His father was a big Chevrolet dealer. And that's how Joe Biden got his Corvette: His father asked him to bring over his future wife's 1965 Pontiac Tempest and his own 1963 Chevy in time for their wedding in August 1967

When the two went to pick up their cars four days later, they were in for a big surprise: Instead, they were able to receive their wedding gift - a 1967 Corvette Stingray as a convertible, equipped with a 300-hp 5.4-liter V8 and four-speed manual transmission.

Sons donated engine overhaul
Mr. President still owns the roadster today, and when he took a seat behind the wheel for the series "Jay Leno's Garage" in 2016, he didn't miss the opportunity to put two thick strips of rubber on the asphalt.

Joe Biden: "I love to drive. And I probably shouldn't admit this, but I like speed."

He had already driven the car to full speed. And when asked by Jay Leno whether he had managed the 160 miles (257 km/h), he answered as follows.

Joe Biden: "They said at the time they were only running 245."

Today, if anything, the car is even better fodder than before, after his sons gave it a complete engine overhaul.

Joe Biden explains why he enjoys driving the 1967 Corvette Stingray with 300 horsepower.

Favorite car 1952 Plymouth convertible
In an interview with Car and Driver magazine, Joe Biden revealed more details of his automotive career. He said he owned a 1951 Studebaker that ran much faster than his father imagined because of the overdrive transmission; also a bright red 1952 Plymouth convertible ("probably my favorite car") and a used Mercedes-Benz 190 SL "whose carburetors never worked."

After his brother let him drive his manual Cadillac CTS-V on a private lot during his vice presidency, things were clear for Joe Biden.

Joe Biden: "A Cadillac was needed as soon as I was allowed to drive again."

There are no ban orgies like in Europe
The newly elected U.S. president for the next four years is speaking out today in favor of improving the situation for electric cars.

The charging infrastructure in the U.S. leaves a lot to be desired, and the market shares outside California are manageable. However, the Biden administration is unlikely to push for the kind of ban orgies that are being pushed in Europe under the label of "traffic transformation.
