The title sponsor of each race is entitled to select the trophies that are presented to the drivers on the podium. Pirelli - a company that has always prided itself on highlighting its origins - has chosen to celebrate Italian art.
Made in the studio of the artist Alice Ronchi, the trophies represent lightning and are real innovations in terms of their conception and symbolism. They are made of highly polished aluminum.
Symbol of strength and power
According to the artist, the trophy was inspired by the beauty of a race car from the 1950s and the landscape of Imola. The Milanese decided to focus on history as well as what she identified as the dominant theme of Formula 1: power.
Alice Ronchi: "I consider lightning as a symbol of power, speed, tension and force. This goes back to the main icons that inspired this work: Zeus, the gods and ancient Greece. I hope this trophy provides a new narrative aspect. By interpreting aspects that summarize the driving forces behind each Grand Prix, as well as using lightning and referencing the myth of Zeus, I wanted to convey a story told in the most expressive way."
Search for the miracle
Born in 1989, Alice Ronchi lives and works in Milan. She received her BA from Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) in Milan in 2012 and her MA from Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam in 2015. She currently teaches at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) in Milan.
In her work, everyday objects meet the world of invention and fantasy. The search for wonder is a constant theme in her work, which is populated by familiar yet enigmatic figures reworked in an abstract way.
Located somewhere between playful and minimalist, her work can be defined as a perfect synthesis between the simplicity of expression and the complexity of forms and meanings.
