In a short interview in the Arctic landscape, Ektröm talks about his adventure.
The journey of around 1900 kilometers through Sweden and Finland, which ends on March 10, started on February 16 in Ekström's hometown of Avesta. Among other things, a drift challenge with the 310-hp Cupra Formentor 2.0 TSI was on the agenda here.
After their stay in Sweden, the SUV and coupe crossover will travel on to Finland. There, numerous activities are planned at a winter camp in the Arctic Circle - including competitions against a snowmobile and a cross-kart on snow and ice.
Perfect combination
Anyone who knows the former DTM champion and rallycross world champion knows that he never shies away from a challenge and always wants to have fun at the same time.
Mattias Ekström: "My Arctic Adventure together with Cupra is the perfect combination. We'll be on the road for around three weeks, in some very tough winter conditions, and I'm really looking forward to putting the Cupra Formentor through its paces. We've come up with some very entertaining things and have a surprise or two in mind as well."
Social media posts
During the Arctic Adventure, video clips and photo series will be produced in the far north of Europe, which Cupra and Ekström will post on their social media channels, among others.
This allows fans and followers to experience the three-week journey with the Cupra Formentor up close. Here you can go directly to Mattias Ekström's Facebook channel with the first action scenes from the Arctic Tour.
Good practice for the new Extreme E racing series
In addition to the fun, there is another important aspect for the racing professional at the Arctic Adventure.
Mattias Ekström: "Driving on snow and ice at the limits is very good training for me and my Extreme E challenge, which I'm tackling this year with Cupra. As a race driver, there's no better school than driving in such wintry conditions."
Fast pair in ABT services
In Extreme E, Ekström will compete for ABT CUPRA XE. Together with the 42-year-old Swede, Claudia Hürtgen will be fighting for victories in the new racing series. Together with the 49-year-old German, Ekström has already completed a number of test drives in the all-electric e-CUPRA ABT XE1.
The first of a total of five race weekends with the 400 kW (550 hp) SUV will take place on April 3 and 4 in Saudi Arabia.
