BMW: Fast laps with Cyndie Allemann
First the action, then the art: Before the presentation of the design studies and racing entries for the BMW Art Cars number 18 and 19 by Cao Fei and John Baldessari at Art Basel (still at Messe Basel until June 19), presenter and driver Cyndie Allemann was on the TCS track in Betzhold near Zurich [...].
Cyndie Allemann: "Cao Frei has never driven in a vehicle of the slightly brasher kind. I had a lot of fun demonstrating to her the characteristics of a BMW M6 in action and explaining the key technical features of the car. She was very impressed and I think she enjoyed the fast laps." With their visions of a BMW M6 GT3, Cao Fei and John Baldessari join the ranks of renowned artists such as Alexander Calder, Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney and Jeff Koons.
Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, said: "We are delighted to be working with two such innovative artists on the design of the next BMW Art Cars. Cao Fei is considered China's most important contemporary artist. Cao Fei's and John Baldessari's Art Cars will continue the racing tradition of the BMW Art Car Collection. John Baldessari's car will have to prove itself on the Daytona race track as part of the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January 2017. On the other side of the globe, the Cao Fei-designed M6 GT3 will compete in a major race in Asia next year in 2017."
