Best Cars: The favorite cars of the Schweizer family
The readers of Schweizer auto-illustrierte, most of whom describe themselves as automotive experts in a survey, voted and cast their votes on top brands and their models in the 22nd "Best Cars" poll. They also voted for the "Best Brands," which are divided into 13 categories. In category A (Mini Cars), the Abarth 595/695 [...].
In category A (Mini Cars), the Abarth 595/695 repeated its previous year's success, beating the Opel Adam and series brother Fiat 500. Following second place last year, the BMW i3 relegated the Audi A1 to third place and narrowly secured overall victory in the small cars (category B) ahead of Group brother Mini. The Opel Astra took the top spot in the compact class (category C) as a newcomer. It was followed by Alfa Romeo's Giulietta and the Skoda Octavia.
Victory for Alfa Romeo Giulia ahead of Swiss market launch
Even before its official market launch, the Alfa Romeo Giulia outclassed the competition in the mid-size category (D), led by the Skoda Superb and Jaguar XE. The Jaguar XF sprinted past the Maserati Ghibli and Audi A6 in the E category (upper mid-range). The Tesla Model S celebrated its first victory among luxury sedans (category F) ahead of the Aston Martin Rapide S and the Mercedes S-Coupé. In the sports car category, the Aston Martin Vanquish outstripped the Porsche 911. Third place went to Ferrari with the F12 Berlinetta.
The Jaguar F-Pace received the most votes
In the convertible category, the 488 Spider is also a Ferrari at the top. It is followed by the Jaguar F-Type Convertible and the Ford Mustang Convertible. In the compact SUV segment, the Range Rover Evoque rolled to the top this year. It was followed by the BMW X1 and the VW Tiguan. The large SUV and off-road vehicle race was won by the Jaguar F-Pace ahead of the Volvo XC90 and Range Rover Sport. In the large sedan category, the Mercedes V-Class knocked the VW Multivan out of first place. Third place went to the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer/Gran Tourer.
Better ratings for Opel in seven categories
In the "Best Brands" category, Volvo once again scored with "High safety standards," Alfa Romeo convinced readers with first place in "Good looks/styling," and Skoda took home the trophy for "Good value for money" for the 14th time. Compared to the previous year, Opel improved its ranking in seven categories by up to eleven places and also took two victories in the categories "Good customer service" and "Makes good advertising".
For the first time, Citroën's posh DS brand appeared in third place in the "Good looks and styling" category. Mercedes took overall victory in the "High reliability" category. Hyundai, on the other hand, made up valuable ground on series winner Skoda in the "Good value for money" category, closing the gap to the Czech automaker.
