Volkswagen: First drive with the ID.5 🎥

GROWTH The ID. Family has a new flagship. VW's first electric SUV coupe offers high utility, sporty comfort, 220 kW power and up to 527 kilometers of range. Swiss market launch is May 20.

As with the ID.4, the ID.5 is available in Pro versions with 128 kW (174 hp), Pro Performance with 150 kW (204 hp) and GTX with 220 kW (299 hp) including all-wheel drive. The ID.5 is effectively the hatchback variant of the ID.4.

Plenty of room for big ones in the back too
Visually, the 4.60-meter-long crossover coupe sets its own accents from the B-pillar onwards, in addition to the modified front apron. Despite the coupe-like roofline, it has sufficient headroom in the rear even for tall people.

Overall, the interior looks modern and well finished. Unfortunately, a lot of hard plastic is still used.

Volkswagen ID.5
Despite the coupe-like roofline, the ID.5 has only 1.2 centimeters less headroom in the rear than the ID.4.

Electronic helpers as desired
Volkswagen has done a lot for the assistance system menu. The local hazard warning system with Car2X technology is fitted as standard.

Travel Assist with swarm data is available as an option. Here, the interaction of adaptive cruise control (ACC) and lane departure warning (Lane Assist) in coordination with the available data from the navigation system and the cloud increases driving comfort.

Parking is also simplified by Park Assist Plus with memory function. In addition, there are over-the-air updates for the ID. Software 3.0.

Ranges of up to 520 kilometers
All three versions are equipped with batteries that can store a net 77 kWh of electricity. This gives the ID.5 Pro and ID.5 Pro Performance a WLTP range of 472 to 520 kilometers.

The top model ID.5 GTX with dual-motor all-wheel drive manages around 30 kilometers less. Thanks to a charging power of up to 135 kW, the GTX can be recharged at a DC fast charging station in around 30 minutes for 390 or 320 kilometers.

Prices start at 54 700 francs
The ID.5 is offered with a lean order structure. Extensive design, infotainment, assistance or comfort and sport packages are available at extra cost.

The electric crossover, which is built in Leipzig, is available from a base price of 54,700 Swiss francs. The more powerful all-wheel-drive top version costs at least 63,500 francs.

Unfortunately, the current situation in Switzerland means that delivery times of at least eight months have to be expected.
