Opel: First kilometers with the new Astra 🎥
ONLY THE NAME REMAINS The new Opel Astra rolls into Switzerland in the summer. For the first time, the compact class bestseller will also be available with a plug-in hybrid, with the all-electric Astra-e version to follow next year.
With 180 hp system output, the Astra Plug-in is the most powerful variant for the time being.
Opel was part of GM for 89 years, but since 2017 the brand has belonged to PSA and Stellantis. This change is now also having a full impact on the compact Astra model. Only the name remains.
The new model is technically based on the EMP2 platform, features the new Vizor family face and a completely redesigned interior. This system change now only awaits the flagship Insignia.
Plug-in hybrid offers enough space
With practically unchanged dimensions, the 4.37-meter-long five-seater is as spacious as ever. Even the plug-in hybrid, which is available for the first time, hardly loses any stowage space (352 to 1268 liters) despite additional technology.
The focus in the development of the new model was on quality, comfort and agile handling. Good sound insulation and seat quality, as well as a pleasant, tactile feel and visually simple instrumentation, ensure a good first impression.
Optical reduction to the essentials
Each Astra cockpit consists of two 10-inch screens and a few individual buttons. Opel calls this visual reduction to the essentials a Pure Panel. But this visual detox is not just a finger exercise by the designers. Pure Panel convinces with intuitive operation in which the individual buttons and multimedia touchscreen fit together perfectly.
The sound of the warning, blinker and confirmation tones, which were created in the recording studio as sound sequences from string and percussion instruments, is also appealing.
Most powerful variant with 180 hp
There is a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine (from 28,780 Swiss francs) and a 1.5-liter turbodiesel (from 32,840 Swiss francs), and with the plug-in (from 39,550 Swiss francs) electrification makes its debut.
With a system output of 180 hp, the plug-in is initially the most powerful variant of the Astra and can travel between 60 and 74 kilometers on electric power. All engines will also be available for the Astra Estate Sports Tourer from late fall. This will also be built as an Astra-e, making it one of the first electric station wagons ever.
With the Astra, an adapted model structure is offered with the Swiss, Swiss Plus and Swiss Premium versions. Gradually, all models will be available with the addition of Swiss.
