Mercedes: New electric vehicle in the mid-size class 🎥
IT'S GOING ON With the EQE, Mercedes is launching an all-electric sedan in the upper midsize class. It can drive from Zurich to Munich and back on a single charge. The electric car from the star starts at 84,300 Swiss francs.
Under Group CEO Ola Källenius, Mercedes is really stepping on the gas with electricity. The EQA, EQB, EQC, EQS and EQV are already on the market, and they will be joined by the EQE with immediate effect.
The EQS SUV and the EQE SUV will follow soon. And there will soon be an electric version of the popular G-Class, too.
Excellent drag coefficient
But first it's curtains for the EQE. The almost five-meter-long business sedan has been smoothed in the wind tunnel, giving it a refined and elegant look - and is of course very aerodynamic, as confirmed by the excellent drag coefficient (Cw) of 0.22.
Wind slippage helps on a number of levels: Consumption is reduced, range is increased as a result, and the noise level while driving is reduced - all things that are crucial for an electric car. The base 350+ model manages a maximum standard range of 654 kilometers with a full 107.8 kWh capacity battery.
It can be used to drive from Zurich to Munich - and back again. Charging takes place at a maximum of 170 kW, which enables charging from 10 to 80 percent in 32 minutes.
Equipment and processing quality
The EQE is based on the same platform as the larger EQS. At 4.95 meters long, it is around 26 centimeters shorter than the EQS, but the wheelbase is only nine centimeters shorter at 3.12 meters. This highlights the luxurious space available in the interior of the EQE, especially in the rear. The cockpit is also derived from the EQS.
Its Hyperscreen, which consists of three large, visually combined displays and extends across almost the entire width of the interior, is available as an option in the EQE. And in terms of equipment, build quality and technical features, the business sedan is in no way inferior to the large luxury-class sedan.
Air suspension irons the bumps
Thanks to rear-axle steering, the sedan is surprisingly manageable, the optional air suspension irons out most bumps, and noise isolation is excellent.
In the basic 350+ model, an electric motor with 215 kW (292 hp) on the rear axle provides the necessary propulsion. The 43 AMG has a second electric motor on the front axle, which means it has variable all-wheel drive and produces 350 kW (476 hp).
Somewhat later, the 500 and the 53 AMG follow with two power versions with 300 kW (408 hp) and 505 kW (687 hp) respectively.
