Jeep: This is how the Grand Cherokee surfs through the terrain 🎥
FIRST TEST The new generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is coming to Europe exclusively with plug-in hybrid drive. However, this does not compromise the legendary off-road capabilities of the large SUV - on the contrary.
Jeep is also gradually electrifying its model range - following the Renegade, Compass and Wrangler, the new Grand Cherokee is now also being launched with plug-in hybrid drive.
The fifth generation of the large SUV will be sold in Europe exclusively with this drive combination of 2-liter turbo gasoline engine and electric motor, while a V6 and a V8 will remain on offer in the home market of the USA.
Range purely electric 40 kilometers
The plug-in hybrid drive generates a system output of 375 hp (276 kW) and a system torque of 637 Nm, and thanks to a battery with 17 kWh capacity it can travel up to 40 kilometers in pure electric mode. The target average consumption is 4.1 liters per 100 kilometers (not yet homologated) - those who charge a lot and drive short distances can manage even less.
The Grand Cherokee does not lose any of its well-known off-road capabilities in the electrified version, on the contrary: thanks to the electric motor, torque is available from a standstill, which can be a great advantage when starting uphill or negotiating obstacles, for example.
Noise suppression via sound system
But off-road capabilities or not - a Grand Cherokee is primarily driven on the road, and the new model does that very well, too. The SUV rolls comfortably, with a soft suspension and damping setup and smooth steering.
Noise isolation is excellent, also thanks to active noise suppression via the sound system. Air-conditioned seats with massage function and plenty of amenities in the spacious interior make even long journeys a pleasure.
Up to five screens are on offer
One surprise is the interior, and a positive one at that. Fine leather, beautifully crafted wood inlays and lots of high-tech - the new Grand Cherokee can easily keep up with the German competition in this respect.
Up to five screens are available: In addition to the info display behind the steering wheel and the 10-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, there is also a screen for the front passenger and two monitors in the rear.
In addition, there is a large-format head-up display that blends the most important information into the driver's field of vision on the windshield.
