Come along for a test drive! The Ford Mustang Mach-E also makes a good impression as an SUV.
At Ford, things are also set to move quickly in the direction of electrification. In passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, the combustion engine is being phased out step by step. As a pioneer of battery-electric drive, the Mustang Mach-E now rolls almost silently onto our roads.
Grown dimensions
Yet the fully electrified powertrain is just one part of the "Mustang revolution": the 1.40-meter-high two-door sports coupe has become a five-door, five-seat crossover SUV, 4.71 meters long and 1.62 meters high.
The cargo space has grown accordingly: 400 to 1420 liters of luggage can be stowed there. In addition, the E-Mustang takes 750 kilograms on the hook.
Four variants
All-wheel drive (AWD) is also new. In addition to the basic model with rear-wheel drive (RWD), the two-motor version is also on offer - both models as standard or extended range, i.e. with a 75- or 99-kWh battery.
The powerful power storage units ensure WLTP ranges of 400 to 610 kilometers - and beefy drive power. The RWD Mustang delivers 198 kW (269 hp) as Standard Range, 216 kW (294 hp) as Extended Range, with torques of 430 Nm. The AWD dual-engine version delivers 198 or 258 kW (269 or 351 hp), with 580 Nm of torque.
Fast and comfortable
The pony car of the modern era is great for gliding: The first test drive showed that the Mach-E has a lot to offer in terms of sportiness. Although it weighs 2 to 2.2 tons depending on the version, it accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds as an AWD Extended Range. The top speed has been limited to 180 km/h.
Three driving modes with the self-explanatory names Active, Tame and Temperamental are available. However, there is no provision for changing the chassis tuning. Driving in single-pedal mode is particularly pleasant.
The car proved to be very comfortable in terms of suspension and noise level, and the controls are intuitive enough that you quickly find your way around.
The design and materials in the interior are also convincing. The dashboard has a neat look and feel, and the colored stitching on the trim elements and seats adds a special touch.
Two splashes of color
Eight paint finishes are available for the new Mustang - six of them between white and black, two in bright red or blue. Base prices range from 49,560 francs (RWD Standard) to 68,940 francs (AWD Extended).
Those who crave even more drive power will have to wait a few more months. Then the GT version with 860 Nm and 358 kW (487 hp) will arrive.
