The grandstands are ready and the race course is secured. Starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, there will be two days of action at the Memorial Mountain Race Steckborn.

Everything is ready to welcome spectators from all over Switzerland and neighboring countries to the small town of Steckborn on Lake Constance. On Saturday and Sunday, around 280 vehicles - cars from 1916 to 1986 and motorcycles from 1930 to 1975, divided into various categories - will take to the mountain track to Eichhölzli.

The pearls and famous names in the field of participants were mentioned in our preview of September 18. Although the race is not for the best time (but at a brisk pace), the safety precautions for drivers and spectators comply with the regulations for a real hill climb.

A lot of effort for safety
For securing the track alone, 260 square bales of straw and 250 small bales are used. Particularly dangerous areas are secured with concrete elements.

About a third of the budget of around 300,000 Swiss francs will be spent on these and other safety measures.

Watching makes you hungry and thirsty. These three helpers are looking forward to the visit in their race bar.

The organizer is the association Freunde des Bergrennens Steckborn. The sports commission of the ACS Thurgau is responsible for the sporting events. In spring, this committee also organizes the equally well-attended Frauenfeld Car Race Days on the Great Allmend.

Reminder of the two National Hill Climb
In 1955 and 1962, two national hillclimb races took place on the 3.5 km long course overlooking Lake Constance. The Memorial Hill Climb Steckborn is a reminder of that time. This weekend it will be held for the fourth time after 2007, 2010 and 2015.

Heinz Schiller took the day's victory at the 1962 Steckborn-Eichhölzli Nat. hill climb. With the Porsche F1, the Geneva native achieved an average of 119.7 km/h.

Visitors will also be well entertained with various exhibitions and attractions related to racing.

A day ticket costs 20 francs for adults (children from 6 to 16 years 8 francs), the weekend ticket 35 francs (children 12).

The complete start list, the exact schedule and further information can be found on the homepage of the organizer.
