It is an event like no other in Switzerland, not even in Europe. The main village in an idyllic, touristically important area and its only access road will be closed periodically for a weekend so that cars can be driven fast and loud. The entire population of Arosa is behind it, and those who do not want to sit in a grandstand in the "Monaco of the Alps" may watch the spectacle at the track and in the paddock free of charge.
On uniformity or best time
For the majority of the 170 or so participants, this is a sporting outing with old and youngtimers, driven for uniformity or just for demonstration. Veteran vehicles built between 1905 and 1918, touring and GT vehicles built between 1919 and 1990, and single and two-seater racing cars built between 1919 and 1990 are permitted to take part.
Amweg or Moser?
26 drivers, including the now well-known Brit Sue Darbyshire on her Morgan Super Aero, have registered in the Competition class. The aim here is to see who can cover the 7.8-kilometer course with its 76 curves from Langwies to Arosa the fastest.

As in previous years, Formula 2 drivers Thomas Amweg and Roger Moser will decide the day's victory between themselves in their Martini BMWs. In 2014 and 2015, Moser, a local who is very familiar with the track, won. In each of the past three years, however, Amweg, who is also one of the fastest in modern hillclimb racing, retained the upper hand.
Six trips in three days
On Friday, all fields are allowed two practice runs, on Saturday and Sunday two race runs each, regardless of the weather. In between, the race track will be open to everyday traffic. There are also shuttle buses circulating.
