The special exhibition in the new Ellipse includes rare prototypes and record-breaking cars as well as movie star "Herbie". Additional openings of the exhibition "The World of Volkswagen Classics" are planned on other Saturdays as well as on other open Sundays until April 4, 2019.
Record cars and rare prototypes
One of the exhibits is the 1984 VW Golf "CityStromer" RWE electric racing car, with which racing driver Hagen Arlt scored numerous successes in the "Grand Prix Formula E" in the 1980s. Another exhibit is the Volkswagen Polo G40, which set a world speed record in 1985 at the Ehra-Lessien proving ground over a distance of 5,000 kilometers and with an average speed of 208 km/h. The Volkswagen Polo G40 is on loan from the Stiftung Automuseum. On loan from the Volkswagen Car Museum Foundation, it is the only one of what were once three prototypes to have survived.
Karmann Ghia and model SP2 from Brazil
The pop-up gallery also features a Karmann Ghia Type 14 Cabriolet (1958), the prototype Volkswagen Type 3 Cabriolet (1961), the "Race Iltis" (1980) from the Dakar Rally and two Brazilians: the Karmann Ghia TC 145 (1970) and the Volkswagen SP 2 (1974). The historic Volkswagens are artistically staged on a beamer wall.
